Discover Lyon on foot, from the hotel
Place Bellecour
Let's start this tour at Place Bellecour, the most beautiful and largest square in Lyon, just a stone's throw from our hotel. Take the direction of Vieux Lyon and Notre Dame de Fourvière that we can see at the top of the hill. You can do this on foot or take the metro D direction Gare de Vaise stop Vieux Lyon.
Old Lyon
Continue the walking tour through Vieux Lyon (see map). Along this pedestrian street, you can visit traboules, charming little shops, as well as discover the typical Lyon restaurant: the bouchons.
Fourvière
Once in Vieux Lyon, take the funicular (direction Fourvière) from the metro station to the top of the Fourvière hill. After enjoying the basilica and the magnificent view over Lyon, take the funicular back down to Vieux Lyon.
The docks
Once you have finished your tour of the old town, go to the Quai Fulchiron next to the Saône (see map). Continue to the Palais de Justice. After admiring this impressive building, cross the Saône by the Passerelle du Palais de Justice.
Place des jacobins
Continue on foot towards the Place de Jacobins by taking the Rue du Port du Temple at the end of which you will find a large fountain. Then turn left into Rue du Président Edouard Herriot, a shopping street along which you will find shops of all types.
Place des terreaux
Continue to the Place des Terreaux, where you will find the Hôtel de Ville, one of the city's most imposing historical buildings.
Place bellecour
Once you have finished admiring this building, take the Rue Joseph Serlin to the right of the Hôtel de Ville to get to the Opéra de Lyon. Then continue along Rue de la République, along which you will also find shops of all types, to finally arrive at Place Bellecour.

The Alexandra hotel is located on the peninsula of Lyon, the heart of the city. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is home to Lyon's main monuments, along its majestic streets of "renaissance" inspiration or Haussmann style: just a few steps from the hotel in the centre of Lyon, you can admire the Hôtel-Dieu and its imposing facade, the Célestins theatre and the Opera.
